Walking and hiking - Walking destinations

Walking is the ideal way to cheer yourself up. Walking at a steady pace in the crisp high mountain air amid spectacular Alpine scenery refreshes both body and mind. There are plenty of Alpine farmhouses and refuges along the way offering refreshments and a place to rest, perhaps with a typical and substantial South Tyrolean snack of speck (cured ham), cheese, local bread and a good glass of wine enjoyed in the most congenial surroundings. We will gladly provide you with suggestions on walks in the valley, on the mountain pastures and the highest regions.

Trafoi – Stilfser-Joch 

• Kirchweg (Church trail) begins at the hotel Bella Vista/Schöne Aussicht (walking time 15 minutes)
• Grottenweg starting beneath the Tannenheim hotel (walking time 45 minutes)
• Starts with trail no. 2 beneath the Tannenheim hotel (walking time 1 hour)
• Schindelweg trail, starting at the Madatsch hotel to bend no. 43 on the Stilfser-Joch pass road (walking time 45 minutes)
• Keep-fit trail (walking time 45 minutes)
• Annaweg trail, starting at the camping site – joins trail no. 8 (walking time 30 minutes)
• Branches off from the pass road at the end of the village and leads via the camping site to the Three Holy Wells (‘Hl. Drei Brunnen’ – walking time 45 minutes)
• Branches off from the Ferienheim and leads to the waterfalls (walking time 1 hour 15 minutes)
• Starts at bend no. 44 and leads to the Bärenbrücke bridge (walking time 45 minutes)
• Trail to the Weisser Knott rock via the Bärenbrücke bridge (walking time 1 hour)
• From the upper Tartscher Alm pastures along the ridge pathway 20 (walking time 1 hour)
• From the Ferienheim (holiday home) to the Köpfl (walking time 1 hour 20 minutes)
• Köpfl-Weg trail, from the Köpfl in the direction of the Madatsch glacier (walking time 1 hour 30 minutes)
• Bergl-Hütten-Weg trail, from the Three Holy Wells to the Berg-Hütte hut (walking time 1 hour 30 minutes)
• Tartscher Alm trail to the Weisser Knott rock (walking time 2 hours)
• Furkel-Hütte trail, from the Madatsch hotel to the Furkel-Hütte hut (walking time 1 hour 30 minutes)
• From the Bergl-Hütte but to a point above the Edelweiss-Hütte hut along trail no. 19 (walking time 1 hour 30 minutes)
• Tannenheim hotel above Villa Mazagg to the Payer Hütte hut (walking time 4 hours)
• Ridge trail from the Furkel-Hütte hut via the Goldsee lake to the Stilfser-Joch pass (walking time 4 hours)
• Starting from the lower Tartscher Alm pastures via the upper Tartscher Alm to the Goldsee lake, joins the pass road in bend no. 9 (walking time 2 hours)
• From the Stilfser-Joch pass via the Tibet-Hütte hut – Franzenshöhe hotel, joins the pass road (walking time 2 hours)
• Stilfser-Joch – Rötlspitze (walking time 1 hour)
• Furkel-Hütte hut – Schafeck – Schafberg (Piz Minschuns) (walking time 2 hours)
• Furkel-Hütte – Fallatsch-Joch saddle (Swiss boarder) or Furkel-Hütte – Schäfer Hütte – Fallatsch-Joch saddle (walking time 2 hours) 

Stilfs – Gomagoi 

• Starts close to the Furkel-Hütte hut, leading beyond the tree line to Troda – Stilfser-Alm pastures and on via the Stilfser-Alm to Folotsches (walking time 2 ½ hours)
• Starts on the Troda, via the Troment to the Chawalatsch-Spitz 2763 m (walking time 3 ½ hours)
• Starts on the Stilfser-Alm pastures and ends on the Chawalatsch-Spitze 2763 m (walking time 3 hours)
• Starts at Gomagoi (Waldheim guest house) and leads to the Prader-Alm (walking time 2 hours)
• Altherrensteig mountain trail from Gomagoi – Payer-Hütte refuge 

Sulden on the Ortler 

• Turning off at the old church, this hike leads uphill through the forest, crosses the Marletferner morain and continues onto the Marletschneide spur where the Tabaretta-Hütte refuge is located at an altitude of 2555 metres. From there the hike continues via the Bärenscharte gap and along the ridge between Sulden and Trafoi leading to the Payer-Hütte refuge at an elevation of 3020 m (walking time to the Tabaretta-Hütte 2 hours, to the Payer-Hütte 4 hours, a 2-hour walk from the top terminal of the Langenstein chairlift).
