Summit stormers

Wanderlust in South Tyrol

The rhythmic pace of walking, the crystal-clear mountain air and the Alpine scenery all refresh both body and mind. A typical South Tyrolean Marende snack awaits, a reward for your effort, at one of the area’s many Alpine huts and mountain refuges. Speck ham, cheese, a glass of wine – and the warm hospitality of the hut owner to boot – all lend this little break that certain something. We’ll give you advice about the spots most loved by hikers, including tips about hikes in the valley, on the alpine pastures and up in the mountains. There's something for everyone, and always something new to discover as you hike to waterfalls and across alpine meadows.

A peak pleasure for every mountaineer: the blooming of Alpine roses in July. These fiery red flowers that blanket the mountain pastures are impossible to miss. From a distance, the whistle of a marmot can be heard. Curious, she watches the passing hikers. Now it's not far off. The summit cross is within sight. The last few meters are filled with the anticipation of reaching the end point. Now you’re at the goal – and the feeling is that of pure satisfaction. An awe-inspiring view is ample reward for the effort. Impressive summit in sight. Stand there, and just take it all in. Count the three-thousanders. There are 14 in all. Our mountains bring happiness.
